Anjum Shayeque Rahman


Anjum Shayeque Rahman has been working as Senior Research Fellow in the DBT-AAU Centre under the guidance of Dr. Mahendra K Modi. He has been working in the project entitled “Characterisation and gene mining in Assam rice germplasm and molecular breeding for rice improvement” He holds a M.Sc degree in Industrial Biotechnology from Berhampur University, Orissa and a PGDBM from Institute Of Distance and Open Learning, Gauhati University. He is also pursuing his PhD from Assam University.





Amrita Phukan (Phd)


Miss Amrita Phukan has been associated with DBT- NECAB as a Research associate in the project “Isolation of Novel strains to develop efficient Biofertilizer” under Dr. Rajen Baruah, Professor, Department of Soil Science. She pursued her Doctorate degree in Agriculture, Department of Soil Science, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat in the year 2017 for her research work “Screening and evaluation of Methanotrophic bacteria from rice ecosystem”. Her area of specialization is Soil microbiology.




Gunajit Goswami


Gunajit has been associated with DBT-AAU Centre as a Junior Research Fellow and is currently working on the project titled "Screening of soil microbes for acid tolerant genes" under the Principal Investigator Dr. Madhumita Barooah. He completed his Post graduation in Biotechnology from H.N.B.Garhwal University, Uttarakhand. At present Gunajit is working in the area of isolation and molecular characterization of acid soil bacteria by 16S rDNA sequencing and detection of presence of acid stress responsive genes. Simultaneously he is also working on bacterial gene expression study and transposon mediated mutagenesis.





Rubi Gupta


M.sc in Biotechnology from Gauhati University.Working as a JRF under Dr B.K Sarmah since June 2014 in the project entitled,"Genetic Improvement of Grain Legumes using gene Technology to protect against Insect pest". Presently working on the biosafety assessment of transgenic chickpeas lines that are developed in here,all of which harbour Cry 1ac/Cry2Aa genes and pursuing Phd as well.





Sandhani Saikia


Sandhani Saikia from the Molecular Marker lab, joined the project entitled "Characterisation and gene mining in Assam rice germplasm and molecular breeding for rice improvement" under the Principal Investigator Dr. Mahendra K Modi. She joined this centre as a Junior Research Fellow on 17th June 2014. Her current objective is to access the extent of genetic variation in the Assam rice germplasm using SSR markers so as to develop a core collection of the existing germplasms. She has completed her Master degree in Biotechnology from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong under NEHU. She is also pursuing her PhD from Gauhati University.





Trishna Konwar


Trishna is currently working as a Junior Research Fellow in the project titled "Genetic Improvement of Grain Legumes using gene Technology to protect against Insect pest" under the guidance of Prof. B K Sarmah. She holds a M.SC degree in Biotechnology from Dibrugarh University, Assam.





Mamta Bhattacharjee


Mamta is an PhD Scholar and working as Junior Research Fellow under the supervisions of Dr. B. K. Sarmah and Dr Sumita Acharjee. Her research fields include "Legume transformation and Study of plant insect interaction". She is doing her current study in "Understanding the molecular mechanism of defense in chickpea and pigeon pea due to Helicoverpa armigera infestation".





Sushil Kumar Singh (Phd)


Sushil completed his PhD in Agricultural Biotechnology and now working as a Research Associate in the project titled "Genetic improvement of rice for abiotic and biotic stress tolerance using molecular breeding", under the supervision of Dr. M. K. Modi. He successfully cleared competitive exams like ICAR-SRF Fellowship (2013-2016), ICAR-NET, and GATE (Biotechnology). He is working in "Genome wide association mapping in rice for drought tolerance and Marker Assisted breeding for BLB, Blast and Drought tolerance in rice". His research interests include Plant Molecular breeding and Functional genomics.





Swapnil Bhowal


Swapnil did his M.Sc in Environmental Sciences from Tezpur University and now working as a Junior Research Fellow in the project titled "Seedless plant production and mass scale propagation of Musa balbisiana ( Bhimkol banana) of NER using in-vitro techniques" under the supervision of Mr Manab Bikash Gogoi. His research interests include Tissue Culture, Plant Stress Physiology, Solid Waste Management and Microbiology.





Monuj Gogoi


Monuj is a Junior Research Fellow in the Centre. He has done his M.Sc. in Agriculture (Plant Pathology) and currently pursuing his PhD in Plant Pathology Depaertment, AAU, Jorhat. He is working in the project titled "Isolation of novel strains to develop efficient biopesticides" under the supervision of Dr. Lohit Chandra Bora, Professor & Head of Department of Plant Pathology, AAU. His Research interests include Mushroom Science & Technology, Biological Control, Organic Agriculture.





Sudipta Bhattacharyya


Sudipta is engaged in the Centre as a Senior Research Fellow under the supervision of Dr. Bidyut K. Sarmah and Dr. Sumita Acharjee in the project titled "Development of cisgenic chickpea (Cicer arietinum L) resistant to pod borers (Helicoverpa armigera)". Her current research interest is to investigate the interaction of plant Protease Inhibitors (PIs) with gut proteinases of H. armigera, a polyphagous lepidopteron insect pest.





Ajay Kumar Keot


Ajay is a Junior Research Fellow in the Centre. He is doing his current study under the supervisions of Dr. Sumita Acharjee and Dr. B.K Sarmah on the project titled "Optimization of gene editing method for chickpea with the CRISPR/Cas System and edit AHAS1 gene for herbicide tolerance". He did his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from St. Anthony’s College Shillong, NEHU. His current research interest is Plant genetic engineering.
