Anjum Shayeque Rahman


Anjum Shayeque Rahman has been working as Senior Research Fellow in the DBT-AAU Centre under the guidance of Dr. Mahendra K Modi. He has been working in the project entitled “Characterisation and gene mining in Assam rice germplasm and molecular breeding for rice improvement” He holds a M.Sc degree in Industrial Biotechnology from Berhampur University, Orissa and a PGDBM from Institute Of Distance and Open Learning, Gauhati University. He is also pursuing his PhD from Assam University.





Antara Paul


Antara is engaged as a Junior Research Fellow under DBT-AAU Centre since November 2013 and is part of the project titled “Programme on Biofertilizer” under the leadership of Dr. Rajen Baruah.Antara holds a Master degree in Microbiology from Annamalai University,Tamil Nadu.





Amrita Phukan


Ms Amrita Phukan, has been associated with DBT AAU Centre as a Junior Research Fellow in the project “Programme on Biofertilizer” under Dr. Rajen Baruah, Professor, Department of Soil Science . She did her Masters in Agriculture majoring in Soil Science from Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat. At present, , Miss Phukan is pursuing her Ph.D. in Agriculture (Soil Science). Her area of specialization is Soil Microbiology and is currently working on isolation and characterization of Methanotrophs from rice ecosystem of Assam..





Borsha Borah


Borsha Borah has been involved as a Junior Research Fellow with our Centre since July, 2012. She is part of the project dedicated towards “Genetic Improvement of Grain Legumes using gene Technology to protect against Insect pest” under the guidance of Prof. B K Sarmah. Borsha holds a Master of Science degree in Botany from Gauhati University.




Gunajit Goswami


Gunajit has been associated with DBT-AAU Centre as a Junior Research Fellow and is currently working on the project titled “Screening of soil microbes for acid tolerant genes” under the Principal Investigator Dr. Madhumita Barooah. He completed his Post graduation in Biotechnology from H.N.B.Garhwal University, Uttarakhand. At present Gunajit is working in the area of isolation and molecular characterization of acid soil bacteria by 16S rDNA sequencing and detection of presence of acid stress responsive genes. Simultaneously he is also working on bacterial gene expression study and transposon mediated mutagenesis.

Kuldeep Talukdar


Kuldeep has been associated with DBT-AAU Center as a Junior Research Fellow from December, 2013. He is currently working under the project “Programme on Biopesticides” under the mentorship of Dr. L.C.Bora. He is currently working for development of new generation of biopesticides and also promoting the same among the stakeholders. Kuldeep holds a M.Sc degree from Assam Agricultural University in Plant Pathology and is also pursuing his Ph.D on isolation and characterization of some native strains of Arsenic degrading bacteria in rice ecosystem of Assam.



Lohit Kataki


Lohit has been involved with DBT-AAU Centre as a Junior Research Fellow since October 16, 2012. He is working on the project titled “Programme on Biopesticides” under the Principal Investigator Dr. L. C. Bora, Professor, Department of Plant Pathology. Lohit holds a Post Graduate degree from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and currently pursuing his Ph.D (Agri.) degree in Plant Pathology. At present he is working on Methanotrophic Bacteria and Plant Growth Promoting Microbes for management of rice diseases and suppression of methane emission under submerged rice cultivation system.





Mihir Rabha


Mihir has been involved as a Junior Research Fellow since January, 2013. He is part of the project dedicated towards “Genetic Improvement of Grain Legumes using gene Technology to protect against Insect pest” under the guidance of Prof. B K Sarmah. Mihir holds a Post Graduate degree from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar. He is currently working on isolation and characterisation of insecticidal genes from Bacillus Thuringiensis strains of Assam soil.


Monalisa kalita


Monalisa kalita from RARS Titabor, joined the project “Characterisation and gene mining in Assam rice germplasm and molecular breeding for rice improvement” under principal investigator Dr. M.K. Modi and Co-PI Dr Sanjay Chetia on 1st July 2015. She is working on characterization of Sali germplasm and screening for QTLs for anaerobic germination. She has completed her M.Sc from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong under NEHU.


Rubi Gupta


M.sc in Biotechnology from Gauhati University.Working as a JRF under Dr B.K Sarmah since June 2014 in the project entitled,"Genetic Improvement of Grain Legumes using gene Technology to protect against Insect pest".Presently working on the biosafety assessment of transgenic chickpeas lines that are developed in here,all of which harbour Cry 1ac/Cry2Aa genes and pursuing Phd as well.


Sandhani Saikia


Sandhani Saikia from the Molecular Marker lab, joined the project entitled “Characterisation and gene mining in Assam rice germplasm and molecular breeding for rice improvement” under the Principal Investigator Dr. Mahendra K Modi. She joined this centre as a Junior Research Fellow on 17th June 2014. Her current objective is to access the extent of genetic variation in the Assam rice germplasm using SSR markers so as to develop a core collection of the existing germplasms. She has completed her Master degree in Biotechnology from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong under NEHU. She is also pursuing her PhD from Gauhati University.


Trishna Konwar


Trishna is currently working as a Junior Research Fellow in the project titled “Genetic Improvement of Grain Legumes using gene Technology to protect against Insect pest” under the guidance of Prof. B K Sarmah. She holds a M.SC in Biotechnology from Dibrugarh University, Assam.
